Raymond E. O’Rourke, 85 of West Deer Township, died peacefully at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh with his family by his side. He was born December 15, 1940 in Braddock. Ray grew up in North Braddock graduating from Scott High School in 1958. He has lived in West Deer for the past 50 years. Following high school Ray served his country in the US Navy on the USS Mullinnix, which was part of the Fourth Navel District. Returning from his service, he went to the University of Pittsburgh, where he received his Bachelor’s degree from the School of Engineering. He worked for over 37 years for Westinghouse as an Electrical and Nuclear Engineer, retiring in 2011. Ray was a very active member of Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, West Deer, where he was a member of the church choir, a member of the church Men’s Club, where he was a past-treasurer and past-board of director, also was a cantor, lector and Eucharistic Minister. Ray furthermore served on the church Pastoral Council, on the Church Finance Committee and taught the high school students in the church CCD program. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 5501, where he also was the financial secretary for several years. Ray also volunteered within the community, serving on the Township Parks and Recreational Committee and was a former member of West Deer VFD #2. He enjoyed playing golf, reading, traveling and attending Pitt Football games, being a long time season ticket holder, though his greatest joy was spending time with his loving wife, sons and their children.
Survivors include his sons Raymond E. (John) O’Rourke of Dormont, Kevin S. (Erin) O’Rourke of West Deer his daughter-in-law Victoria “Tori” A. Schuster of Latrobe, his grandchildren Jacob (Ashley) Hice, Elora O’Rourke, Parker O’Rourke and Brooks O’Rourke, his sister Suzanne (John) Dickun of Pittsburgh and his brother Kim Winwood of Pittsburgh and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jo (Cain) O’Rourke on January 15, 2026, his son Sean Patrick O’Rourke on January 17, 2026 and his sister Joann Maruca.
Friends will be received Thursday 6-8 PM & Friday and from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm in the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer, where parting prayers will be conducted on Saturday at 9:30 am with the funeral mass following in Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, St. Victor Church, Bairdford. His brother-in-law Father Frederick L. Cain will officiate. He will be laid to rest next to his wife in St. Mary’s of the Assumption Cemetery, Middle Road, Hampton.
